The Patriots have announced the release of defensive lineman Jonathan Fanene. The Former Bengal had not practiced this month, and has reportedly dealt with bad knees during training camp.

How things can change in five months.

The Patriots really wanted Fanene last offseason. So much so, in fact, that they made him their first free-agent signing of the year when they gave the 30-year-old a 3-year 12 million deal with a 3.85 million signing bonus.
The team also cut kick Chris Koepplin and offensive lineman Kyle Hill.
The Patriots need to reduce their roster to 75 players by Monday at 4 p.m.
