FOXBORO -- The Patriots announced that they released three defensive players on Saturday afternoon: defensive back Justin Green, defensive back Derek Cox and linebacker DJ Lynch. The team's roster is now down from 90 to 87 players.

Green (pictured) was brought up from the practice squad to the 53-man roster twice in 2013 and played in two games. He was traded to the Cowboys last August in exchange for defensive end Ben Bass but didn't last long in Dallas. He was released before the start of the season and later signed with the Patriots practice squad in December.

Cox was brought in as a free agent in June. The five-year veteran was not on a roster during the regular season last year. He was released by the Chargers in March of 2014, then spent the time in training camp with the Vikings and Ravens before being released.

Lynch was an undrafted rookie free agent signed out of Bowling Green in June. Both he and Cox appeared to suffer injuries during Friday's practice, leaving the field before the end of the session.
