The Patriots released corner Rashaan Melvin on Tuesday afternoon, leaving them with just three players at that position on their 53-man roster.

Melvin was signed by the Patriots on Oct. 14 and saw action on the New England defense in just four games, playing 45 total snaps. Melvin was, however, deployed on special teams and he was the player who successfully recovered Stephen Gostkowski's onside kick in the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Eagles.

Malcolm Butler, Logan Ryan and Justin Coleman are the three remaining corners on the Patriots roster. Coleman has not played since Week 10 when he did so with an injured hand in a win over the Giants at MetLife Stadium. Coleman practiced on Friday for the first time since the Giants game and indications are that he'll be healthy enough to be back on the field soon.

The Patriots also released practice squad tight end Joseph Fauria on Tuesday. Fauria, the nephew of former Patriots tight end and WEEI radio host Christian Fauria, was signed on Nov. 18.
