Patriots release CB Kyle Arrington after six seasons

The re-modeling of the Patriots secondary did not end when the team parted ways with Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner during free agency, or when it let go of Alfonzo Dennard last week.

According to Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston, the team's top slot corner from last season, Kyle Arrington, has been informed of his release. A reunion between the two sides has not been ruled out though, per Reiss.

A seven-year veteran and the longest-tenured member of the Patriots secondary, Arrington was scheduled to make $3 million in 2015 and count $4.625 million against the cap. The move, if made official before June 2, will save the Patriots $865,000 in cap space.

Arrington's release means that New England -- for now, at least -- has chosen to cope without its top three corners from 2014. Revis was signed in free agency by the Jets, and Browner was acquired by the Saints.

The corners on the Patriots roster now include Malcolm Butler, Bradley Fletcher, Logan Ryan, Robert McClain, Chimdi Chekwa, Dax Swanson, Justin Green and rookies Darryl Roberts, Jimmy Jean and Eric Patterson.

It's unclear which corner would be best suited to take over Arrington's position as the team's top slot corner, but it's a role that McClain helped fill for the Falcons last season, playing 134 snaps in the slot, according to Pro Football Focus.

Patriots safety Patrick Chung could also help potentially fill that void against bigger targets. Often matching up with tight ends, Chung played the same number of snaps (164) in the slot as Arrington did last season, per PFF.
