Patriots full-team OTAs start Tuesday

The Patriots enter Phase Three of their offseason training activities on Tuesday with the first of three OTA practices this week at Gillette Stadium.

OTAs (offseason training activities) in Phase Three are, as mandated by the Collective Bargaining Agreement, closely regulated.

Here’s how that portion of the CBA reads:

During Phase Three, all coaches shall be allowed on the field. No live contact is permitted. No one-on-one offense vs. defense drills are permitted (i.e., no offensive linemen vs. defensive linemen pass rush or pass protection drills, no wide receivers vs. defensive backs bump-and-run drills, and no one-on-one special teams drills involving both offense and defense are permitted). Special teams drills (e.g., kicking team vs. return team) are permitted, provided no live contact occurs. Team offense vs. team defense drills, including all drills listed in Appendix G to this Agreement, are permitted, provided no live contact occurs. Clubs may require players to wear helmets; no shells are permit- ted during Phase Three of the Club’s offseason workout program or any minicamp.

Teams are allowed 10 days of OTAs over the next four weeks. The Patriots will go on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday this week; Monday, Wednesday, Thursday next week and Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday the following week. The team’s minicamp is June 16-18.

The Patriots pre-empted their rookie minicamp media access in the wake of the Wells Report release, so we will be meeting the 2015 draft class for the first time. Malcom Brown will be introduced on Wednesday. Access to the rest of the rookies is expected Thursday. We are told that the only media access to OTA practices will come on Friday.
