The Patriots have claimed cornerback Troy Hill off waivers from the Cincinnati Bengals, according to the NFL transactions wire.

ESPN's Field Yates was first to report the Hill move.

Tight end Asante Cleveland has been waived to make room on the 53-man roster for Hill, 24, a 5-11, 180-pound undrafted rookie from Oregon who was activated off the Bengals practice squad and played in their past three games.

Hill gives the Patriots a fifth cornerback, joining Malcolm Butler, Justin Coleman, Leonard Johnson and practice-squad corner Rashaan Melvin. The Patriots play the Jets Sunday at 1 p.m. at Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Cleveland, 23, 6-6, 260 pounds, was acquired from the San Francisco 49ers in a trade for offensive lineman Jordan Devey in August. He was activated from the practice squad Nov. 27 and played in four games, catching one pass.
