Patriots again sixth on Forbes list of Top 50 franchise values

The Patriots again come in at No. 6 (worth $3.4 billion) of Forbes list of the Top 50 most valuable sports franchises for the second year in a row. 

The Patriots are the second-most valuable NFL team for the third year in a row with their value up 6 percent from $3.2 billion a year ago. The Cowboys are the No. 1 team overall on the list at $4.2 billion in value. Next are the New York Yankees ($3.7B). 

Three European soccer teams fill out the Top 5: Manchester United of the English Premier League ($3.69B), Barcelona of La Liga ($3.64B) and Real Madrid ($3.58 billion) of La Liga.

The Red Sox check in tied for 16th on the list with the NFL’s Chicago Bears, each at $2.7B, that’s a 17 percent increase in value from last year for the MLB team. 

The Celtics ($2.2B, up 5 percent) are 30th. The Golden State Warriors ($2.2B) are the top NBA team at 20th.

Poll ranks Patriots as NFL's most 'badass' team

Five-time Super Bowl champions. Seven-time AFC champs. Fourteen-time AFC East champs. Now, Bill Belichick's Patriots have another title.

The Tampa Bay Times polled a panel of 43 NFL writers and asked them for the top three most "badass" teams and players in the NFL.

The defending Super Bowl champion Patriots came out on top with 29 top-three votes. 

Here's a sampling of the panelists' comments:

The most badass player? Veteran Steelers linebacker James Harrison. The highest-ranked Patriot on the list? Tom Brady at No. 6. Rob Gronkowski was tied with Raiders linebacker Khalil Mack at No. 8. Julian Edelman was among the others receiving votes.
