The fellas over at Pro Football Focus believe the Patriots are the second-best team in the NFL behind Green Bay ("They are so good it's almost unfair."). In the article, author Khaled Elsayed notes that last year he had Tom Brady as his 33rd-ranked player in the league. There's a line between self-deprecation and admitting things that are so stupid they should be forever buried, Khaled. You crossed it. But we still friends. I saw David Garrard play some excellent football games for the Jacksonville Jaguars and think he was very underrated. Here's a transcribed conversation between the just-released Jags quarterback and Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times Union. (And if you're wondering which games I might be referring to, here's one). Dolphins left tackle Jake Long says he's good to go for the opener despite missing all of preseason in Miami. The Boston Herald's Karen Guregian takes a look at the Border War with the Jets -- once declared over by Bill Parcells -- still going strong. With Peyton Manning's neck injury, the stars seem to be aligning for the Jets to win their third consecutive Super Bowl. "I just got to believe that it has to be us," said LaDainian Tomlinson. He was referring to the team that would win the Lombardi Trophy in February 2012. Of course? Who else could it be?Tom E. Curran can be reached at tcurran@comcastsportsnet.com. On Malcolm Butler, Mayo has one piece of advice - stop being so emotional! He talks about how Butler has no leverage as a restricted free-agent, and the Patriots are in the right. Mayo stresses to Butler that insurance can offset any fears for playing for what he believes his market value is.

Giardi goes 1-on-1 with Saints reporter Nick Underhill about the latest rumors from the owner's meetings regarding Malcolm Butler, and how his acquisition could prevent Drew Brees from considering going to a title contender when his contract is up in 2018.
