Is Patriots safety Devin McCourty paying attention to the pregame hype leading up to the Patriots-Broncos AFC Championship matchup?
"I'm watching NBA, college hoops." he told Tom E. Curran in his weekly visit on Quick Slants. "No ESPN. No NFL Network [or Comcast SportsNet]."
McCourty knows the media drill by now for these Brady vs. Manning meetings. "Tuesday, you're going to tell us about the 2002 game, Wednesday maybe the 2007 game."
He says the hype is irrelevant to the Patriots.
"All I'm thinking about is trying to beat Peyton Manning," McCourty said. "He's been doing it a long time...He brings every skillset you need as a quarterback."
What's this week like for McCourty and the Pats?
"It goes fast," he said. "You start preparing early in the week and before you know it, you're in the middle of that game."
This is McCourty and the Patriots third year in a row in the AFC Championship Game. Going through it before has taught him to appreciate being here.
"This being my third year, the key is to live in the moment," McCourty said.
