CSNNE Patriots insider Tom E. Curran sits down for his weekly visit with Pats linebacker Jerod Mayo on "Quick Slants." Mayo discusses the upcoming game against the Jets and his new Old Spice commercial.

Mayo said he and his teammates knew the opener in Buffalo would be a challenge.

"Going on the road, division game, we just had to weather the storm," he said. The Pats came away with a 23-21 victory on Stephen Gostkowski's field goal with five seconds left.

Now, there's a short turnaround before facing the Jets in a Thursday night, Week 2 matchup in Foxboro.

Curran pointed out that the Patriots are a little banged up and it's been a long time since they've come into a game with the kind of question marks they bring into the Jets matchup.

"EVer since I was drafted here in 2008, we've talked about team," Mayo said, repeating the oft-heard mantra of Bill Belichick's teams. "All three units [offense, defense and special teams] come together as one."

As for his commerical, Mayo the thespian finds the fresh scent of Old Spice deoderant getting him through a speech from one of his coaches (not Belichick) that he's heard before.
