Long will wear No. 95 after receiving Jones' blessing

Chris Long admitted that it was nice to hear from Chandler Jones after the Patriots signed Long as a free agent earlier this offseason. In the course of their back-and-forth, Jones gave Long the OK to suit up in his old No. 95.

While it was a nice offer, as of two weeks ago, Long wasn't sure what number he'd wear. Now it's official: He'll be keeping Jones' old digits in use.

The Patriots published an updated roster online this week that listed jersey numbers for all of their offseason acquisitions. Tight end Martellus Bennett will wear No. 83, receiver Chris Hogan will wear No. 15 -- which he wore in Buffalo -- and Terrance Knighton will rock No. 96.

Other new Patriots who now have jersey numbers include defensive back EJ Biggers (No. 39), running back Donald Brown (No. 34), guard Jonathan Cooper (No. 65), tight end Clay Harbor (No. 88), linebacker Ramon Humber (No. 53), defensive lineman Frank Kearse (No. 72), defensive tackle Markus Kuhn (No. 94), linebacker Shea McClellin (No. 58), linebacker James Vaughters (No. 48) and receiver Nate Washington (No. 84).
