Welker vs. Edelman? Welker vs. Patriots? There have been a whole lot of theories why Wes Welker's playing time has been cut into.
Chris Gasper of the Boston Globe joined Felger and Mazz to talk about it. Felger wants to know if Welker's playing time is based on pure football reasons. Gasper doesn't think so.
"I think there is a component to it, but to answer your question, I don't think it is for pure football. I think there is a business element to that." said Gasper "The business element could be as simple as 'this guy might not be here next year,' lets start getting other people ready to fill in and to take his role."
Stay tuned to the Wes Welker saga to see how it unfolds.
Bill Belichick doesn’t take his fashion particularly seriously when the games do count, so it’s understandable that he treated the postgame of Saturday’s preseason game like a painting class.
Belichick sported a “VI Rings” sweatshirt, which is the old name of his boat. Belichick has of course won seven Super Bowl rings between the Patriots and the Giants.
Belichick updated the boat following the Pats’ Super Bowl LI victory, relegating any VI paraphernalia to preseason wear.
HOUSTON -- Trey Flowers did not play in Saturday night's game against the Texans despite feeling fine physically, he said after the game, indicating it was a coach's decision to keep him sidelined.
Flowers is the top defensive end on the Patriots roster, and it would make sense that the team would want to keep him fresh for the long haul given where they are in terms of their numbers at that position. Rookies Derek Rivers (knee) and Deatrich Wise (head) are both dealing with injuries. Linebacker Shea McClellin, who has the ability to play on the edge, has missed about two weeks of work with an undisclosed ailment.
Flowers appeared to finish both joint practices against the Texans at the Greenbrier in West Virginia without incident.
Patriots defensive lineman Geneo Grissom was also held out of New England's second preseason game, though it's unclear as to why. Among those seeing time on the edge against the Texans were Kony Ealy, Caleb Kidder, Harvey Langi and Kyle Van Noy.
