There apparently was some fire behind that the-Patriots-were-interested-in-Maurice-Jones-Drew smoke.
According to ESPN Boston, Jones-Drew -- who signed with the Raiders last week after eight years in Jacksonville -- said the Pats were one of three finalists for his services. Speaking in an interview on Mad Dog Sports Radio, he said he finally chose Oakland over New England and Pittsburgh.
The veteran running back would have provided depth behind the troika of Shane Vereen, Brandon Bolden and Stevan Ridley. The Pats' running corps was weakened when LeGarrette Blount signed with the Steelers.
