Jets announce Revis has torn ACL

Jets coach Rex Ryan announced at his press conference today that cornerback Darrelle Revis suffered a torn ACL.

Revis appeared to twist his left knee awkwardly in the third quarter of the Jets 23-20 overtime win over the Dolphins on Sunday afternoon. He left the game and did not return.

Ryan said the team has not yet officially placed Revis on injured reserve, but his season is over.

"Obviously that's a significant injury and it's something that we're going to have to overcome as a football team," Ryan said. "For him I feel bad about it because he's such a great player and a great teammate. We're going to lose that presence."

The injury is a huge blow to the Jets. When Revis is healthy, he is the most dominant cornerback in the league, able to shut down most teams' top receiving options.

Kyle Wilson will now likely take on a starting role for the Jets along with fellow corner Antonio Cromartie.

What's this mean for the Patriots, who play the Jets in Week 7? It will probably an easier day for Brandon Lloyd, who likely would have drawn a matchup with Revis. Otherwise? Hard to say. Revis allows the Jets to be very aggressive defensively. Without him, Ryan's scheme will likely look much different from the one we've been used to seeing over the last few years.
