FOXBORO --With Jerod Mayo expected to be out several weeks due to a sprained MCL, hisreplacement is expected to come from within.

On Monday, a day after New Englands 31-19 win over theRaiders in Oakland, Patriots coach Bill Belichick addressed the media, and saidthat linebacker Gary Guyton will replace the captain.

Gary and Jerod came in together, theyre very close, personally, said Belichick. And playing next to each other, they have greatcommunication. Both guys can kind of do what the other one does, and they flipassignments and positions regularly on the defense, just to change up thelooks.

I think Garys got good experience, and he knows all thepositions at the inside linebacker part of the defense . . . Hes a real sharpguy.

Well see what the game plan is, going forward here, addedBelichick. But certainly, Gary has had a big role on our defense over the lastthree years, and hell continue to. Hes a key guy for us and hes done a goodjob and hes done various things. Hes played in sub defenses, hes played inregular defenses, played in our middle linebacker spot, played our other insidelinebacker spot.

Andrew Hawkins celebrates joining Patriots with 'Ballers' spoof

Andrew Hawkins' situation isn't far off from a character in HBO's "Ballers." And he played into those connections with a video on Twitter.

The slot receiver, who signed with the Patriots on Wednesday, shares some similarities with the fictional football player Rickey Jerret, a veteran receiver who wades through interest from a number of teams, including New England, during free agency. Because of those similarities, Hawkins spoofed on a scene from "Ballers" where Jerret works out with Patriots receivers Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola. Hawkins imposes his face over Jerret's.
