Gronkowski, Edelman, Mason not spotted during pregame warmups

FOXBORO -- The Patriots will be without Tom Brady, which was a surprise. Here are the others they'll be missing based on warmups...

* Offensive lineman Shaq Mason was a surprise absence as the Patriots got ready to take on the Bears in their second preseason game. Mason began camp on the physically unable to perform list, but he passed his physical soon after camp opened, and he's been a full participant in practices recently. Mason has been slotted in as the first right guard on the field in most situations over the course of the last week or so. In his place, Josh Kline could see reps as the starter next to right tackl Marcus Cannon.

* Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman will not play, as expected. Edelman practiced in full on Tuesday, but he will be kept on the sidelines for this one. Gronkowski has not practiced since suffering an injury on Monday.

* Rob Ninkovich (torn triceps) and Malcolm Mithchell (dislocated elbow) will not be on the field for preseason game No. 2. Players still on the physically unable to perform list -- Danny Amendola, Sebastian Vollmer, Dion Lewis and Tre' Jackson -- remain inactive.

* Jabaal Sheard, Shea McClellin, Keshawn Martin, Donald Brown, DJ Foster and Jonathan Cooper continue to deal with injuries and will also not be playing.

* Alan Branch has been suspended by the team and is out.
