FOXBORO -- Left behind last week when the Patriots held joint practices with the Redskins, Gronkowski said he is able to go 100 percent but only on routes where he’s not facing contact.

“I’m going full speed in the drills I’m doing, they’re just limiting the drills I can do from the contact,” the Patriots tight end explained. “(I’m) going full speed on the routes on air, on all my routes. When I can start getting contact, (I might) ease into it a little bit but most likely when I’m cleared to get contact, I’ll be full go there too.”

Gronkowski is getting better every day.

He said that last week was an opportunity to take some heat off his still-healing ACL.

“Went hard during the practices (the previous week) and took a little time off to let the knee heal a little bit,” said Gronkowski when asked what he did while his teammates were away. “Can’t always be grinding on it 24-7 coming off an injury. You gotta let it heal. You gotta hit it hard, then let it heal.”

There is no date set for his return to contact, said Gronkowski. He added that he’s not yet focused on whether he’ll be playing in the opener, saying that it’s still a month away.

Gronkowski spent a chunk of practice working out with Tom Brady as he’s done for most every training camp workout.
