The Patriots have already gotten an early start on trimming their roster to the required 75 by Tuesday at 4, hacking vets Will Smith, Tommy Kelly and James Anderson on Sunday. Not a big fan of the Kelly cut, but Bill Belichick must have lost my number and failed to get my opinion.

Here’s my third crack at the Pats eventual 53-man roster, which again is actually 55 when you consider the suspensions to Brandon Browner and Brian Tyms:

Quarterbacks (2)
- Tom Brady
- Jimmy Garoppolo

Think Belichick came into the year OK with 3 QBs on the 53-man, but Garoppolo’s surge and the recent announcement that he’ll not only start Thursday vs. the Giants, but play extensively, leads me to believe Belichick is trying to peddle Mallett out of town for some IcyHot and athletic tape.

Running Backs (4)
- Stevan Ridley
- Shane Vereen
- James White
- Brandon Bolden

Just have a feeling about Bolden, even though he’s missed two of the three preseason games. Squirrel away someone like Jonas Gray and or/Roy Finch to the practice squad and break glass in case of emergency.

Fullback/Tight Ends (3)
- Rob Gronkowski
- Michael Hoomanawanui
- James Develin

Guaranteed to see a ton of movement here, depending on the week.

Wide Receivers (6*)
- Julian Edelman
- Danny Amendola
- Brandon LaFell
- Kenbrell Tompkins
- Aaron Dobson
- Brian Tyms*

*Tyms makes it because of the suspension. As for Josh Boyce, he didn’t even get into the third preseason game until late in the third quarter and hasn’t made any kind of impression in this camp. Tough to give up a fourth-rounder so soon, but I think the plug gets pulled early on this one.

Offensive Linemen (10)
- Nate Solder
- Logan Mankins
- Dan Connolly
- Marcus Cannon
- Sebastian Vollmer
- Ryan Wendell
- Jordan Devey
- Josh Kline
- Bryan Stork
- Cameron Fleming

For the very first time, I’m keeping Wendell on the 53. Bottom line, with Stork remaining a mystery, the Pats best offensive line has Wendell in the middle and Dan Connolly at right guard...for now. Still don’t see Jordan Devey as one of the best 53, but his continued monster reps in the first three preseason games means something. What that is, I don’t know, but for now, he stays.

Defensive Linemen (9)
- Vince Wilfork
- Zach Moore
- Sealver Siliga
- Joe Vellano
- Chris Jones
- Dominique Easley
- Chandler Jones
- Rob Ninkovich
- Michael Buchanan

Never should have cut Tommy Kelly. Graded out well for me in the preseason and thought he’s still a starter in this league. Guessing Pats think some of their younger players just won’t make it to the practice squad, hence the cut. Dominique Easley is one to watch this week. The rookie first-rounder looks like he’ll need to be a player sooner rather than later, because of the overall skill level on that front.

Linebackers (6)
- Jerod Mayo
- Jamie Collins
- Dont’a Hightower
- Chris White
- Darius Fleming
- James Morris

Steve Beauharnais to the practice squad if he gets through waivers. Chris White strictly on the squad for special teams.

Cornerbacks (6*)
- Darrelle Revis
- Alfonzo Dennard
- Logan Ryan
- Kyle Arrington
- Malcolm Butler
- Brandon Browner*

*Browner doesn’t count against the 53 because of his suspension for the first four weeks. Continue to be impressed by Butler. Rises up and meets every challenge that’s thrown his way, and has been competitive on passes that have been caught on him as well.

Safeties (5)
- Devin McCourty
- Duron Harmon
- Tavon Wilson
- Nate Ebner
- Pat Chung

Tavon Wilson makes it as a core-4 special teamer. Chung and Harmon appear to be in line to split time at safety alongside McCourty, although I could see a scenario in the coming weeks where Harmon’s play expands and Chung ends up getting whacked.

Specialists (4)
- Steven Gostkowski
- Ryan Allen
- Danny Aiken
- Matt Slater

Practice squad: Finch, Gray, Beauharnais, DJ Williams, Jon Halapio, Taylor McCullers, Jeremy Gallon, Jemea Thomas. Leaving blanks for a tight end and a linebacker.
