Felger gives his reasoning for the realistic chance that the Patriots could move on from Vince Wilfork.

Could Vince Wilfork - like safety Steve Gregory on Friday - become a salary cap casualty this offseason for the Patriots?

The big man is coming off pretty much a lost season after blowing out his Achilles. On Arbella Early Edition, Michael Felger said don't rule out the Patriots parting ways with their long-time nose tackle.

"Hopefully, Gregory's the first domino. There's some contracts to be looked at. Vince Wilfork? Do you cut him outright or do you really whack him down? Dan Connelly? Do you really want to pay $4 million for a guard. You're paying Logan Mankins 7 and a half. There's restructrings, there's releases...

"Let's just say Vince Wilfork was younger and playing at a high level and he wasn't injured. Let's just say he's an $11 million nose tackle. Do you want to pay your nose tackle, no matter who he is, $11 million? Now, on top of it, his age [33 in November], his injury, his weight. Do you try and ease it out and restructure him...or do you rip the Band-Aid off and say, 'Hey Vince,we love ya, mean it, but go to free agency and get the best deal you can and move on. And I think there's a case to be made for that second thing, to be moving on."
