On Thursday it was reported that former Browns GM Michael Lombardi was close to joining the Patriots' front office.
On Friday, Felger & Mazz wanted to know why.
Felger suggests that Lombardi will have no significant responsibilities and will instead be in charge of picking up coffee, dropping off the dry-cleaning, and brushing the snow off Bill Belichick’s car.
Mazz got to the heart of the objection when he asked, "If [Lombardi] had no history with Belichick, would he be hired?"
What has Lombardi accomplished, over than being friends with Belichick?
Felger jabs at the "revisionist history" that now seems to be floating around in an attempt to justify bringing Lombardi on board.
Lombardi, it turns out, was apparently 'influential' in the selection of the Patriots' 2010-2012 NFL Draft classes - classes that included Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, Jermaine Cunningham, Brandon Spikes, Zoltan Mesko, Nate Solder, Shane Vereen, Stevan Ridley, Ryan Mallett, Chandler Jones and Dont'a Hightower.
"Well then," asks Mazz (dripping with sarcasm), "shouldn’t this guy be the GM? Shouldn’t Bill then relinquish personnel to this guy?"
Sure. And right after that Belichick will bring back Adalius Thomas to be the team's Director of Motivation.
