Reche Caldwell is best known in these parts for two things:

1. Those bug eyes he has, and

2. Dropping a catchable pass in the end zone of the 2006 AFC Championship Game in Indianapolis, forcing the Patriots to settle for a field goal instead of a touchdown . . . a four-point swing that proved to be the margin of defeat in the Patriots' 38-34 loss to the Colts.

(He probably should be known for a third thing: The ineptitude of he and his fellow wideouts prompted the Patriots to go on a receiver-acquisition binge that offseason, leading to a) the importation of Randy Moss, Wes Welker and Dont'e Stallworth, among others, b) a record-setting offensive performance in 2007 and c) an 18-1 season.)

Long gone from these parts, Caldwell, now 34, is suddenly back in the news: He and two others were arrested Sunday afternoon by police in Tampa and charged with bookmaking and running an illegal gambling house. He was held overnight in jail and released this morning on $4,000 bail.

Well, at least we know he's been keeping himself busy since leaving Foxboro.
