Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman sat in with Michael Felger and Tony Massarotti on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Felger & Mazz from the Super Bowl to discuss former teammate Wes Welker's controversial hit on Aqib Talib, as well as his own future with the Pats.
"I haven't really seen the play," Edelman said of Welker's hit that knocked Talib out of the Pats' AFC Championship Game loss to the Broncos and drew the ire of coach Bill Belichick. "I gotta see it. That a man-beater. The guy going over the top is picking the guy going underneath. Would I go out and do the same thing if I was told to do it? Probably."
Edelman said he's rooting for Welker, his one-time mentor with the Patriots, in the Super Bowl.
"Wes is a buddy of mine," he said. "If he goes out and gets one, that'd be great for him. If Welker gets a ring, that'd be pretty cool"
As for his impending free agency, Edelman said he's still preparing for it.
"I haven't even sat down with my agents," he said. "We're going to discuss what I want. Playing for New England is a dream, but like you said, there's a short window in this sport. There's a lot of things that can happen. Hope it works out for both."
