With the Chicago Bears signing free agent pass rusher Jared Allen, the market is thinning for impact guys who can get after the quarterback.
On SportsNet Central, Patriots insider Tom E. Curran suggested ex-Charger and Bronco Shaun Phillips could be someone the Pats would look at. Phillips, 6-3, 255 pounds, who turns 33 in May, played in Denver last season.
When asked what remains on the Pats' shopping list, Curran said a situational pass rusher such as Phillips might fit the bill.
"I think right now they're probably looking at a 'move' tight end and some other positions in the draft," Curran said. "If I had to really ballpark it, I would say Shaun Phillips...They always like to have a veteran sitiuational pass rusher. He's a little undersized for what the Patriots like to do. Right now a lot of agents are shifting into that 'bargain-basement' mode."
