After a career year from Julian Edelman, he can cash in as he hits the free agent market. Patriots insider Tom E. Curran says the Patriots should pony up and retain the man who became Tom Brady's favorite target this season.

"The Patriots don't want to court disaster and let Julian Edelman go anywhere," Curran said on Quick Slants. "Tom Brady deserves receivers he can trust and Danny Amendola doesn't have the trust Tom Brady needs."

Curran said Amendola is "little bit redundant with Amendola", who was last offseason's free agent signee and isn't going anywhere. Still, he thinks Edelman will be worth the money for the Pats.

"You're going to have to pay him in the neighborhood of $15 million to $16 million," Curran said. "I say, go ahead and do it. Plus, if he goes somewhere else in the AFC, that's a sucker punch to the Patriots!"
