Every free agent has a price. Then, there's a Patriots price.
Which will it be for wide receiver Julian Edelman? Patriots insider Tom E. Curran isn't sure, but he knows the Pats "aren't going to blow Julian Edelman away" with an offer to retain the free agent.
"Julian Edelman is a player who has not had to opportunity to cash in," Curran, reporting from the Super Bowl, told SportsNet Central
One interesting note. Tom Brady and Julian Edelman are represented by the same agent. "It would behoove Tom Brady for Edelman to return," Curran said.
As for that pesky Larry Fitzgerald talk that won't go away. Curran first reported that the Pats had expressed some interest in trading for the Arizona Cardinals wide receiver last offseason.
"It's was news to me," Fitzgerald said on WEEI this week.
Said Curran: "It's more tire-kicking. I heard about their interest last off-season in Greg Jennings [of the Packers]. Clearly, there's an interest in improving their receiver corps. It remains to be seen if they'll bring in a guy like Fitzgerald. The Patriots certainly need to surround Tom Brady with weapons the same way the Broncos have surround Peyton Manning in the sunset of his career."
