Curran: Don't fret Garoppolo's OTA performance

At the end of Thursday's OTA's Jimmy Garoppolo and Tom Brady did a little hurry-up 11-on-11 work.

The second-year quarterback went 23-for-35 with five interceptions among his incompletions.

Yeah, Garoppolo's numbers weren't great on the day. But Patriots Insider Tom E. Curran isn't worried about the young quarterback even after his OTA performance.

"It literally could not be more inconsequential than it is right now," said Curran. "when they're doing OTAs, they're not engaged on defense, first of all. The guys that he's throwing to are Fred Davis and a collection of guys that probably aren't going to make the NFL.

"They're going extreme up-tempo, some of these balls are tipped, some of them are ricochets, some of them are quickly made poor decisions. They're still on the install. They're not even grading them. The only people that are grading them are us. Right when they finished I said, you know what, information is good. What we choose to do with the information is where it gets dangerous. I wouldn't make too much of that number five you had next to picks."

Garoppolo is slated to start the first four games of the season if Tom Brady's four-game suspension is upheld by the NFL.

"He's got an unbelievable release, he's extremely accurate. His deep ball is - and probably will continue to be - much better than Tom Brady's in terms of touch and timing," evaluated Curran. "It's just that way, it's just his skill. He is a very, very talented young player."
