Before the NFL Draft even got started on Thursday, there were rumors that the Houston Texans were trying to acquire New England Patriots backup quarterback, Ryan Mallett.

After the first two days of the Draft, the Texans have not yet drafted a quarterback.

When the Patriots used their second round pick to take quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, the writing on the wall got even clearer.

Ryan Mallett's time in New England is nearing an end.

Patriots Insider Tom E. Curran says the Patriots and Texans continue to talk about a deal that would send Mallett to Houston and Ian Rapaport says the deal would include a one-year extension for Mallett.

The Patriots drafted Mallett in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft. What could they get for him today?

"At this point, if they can get a fifth, sixth or seventh [round pick], it’s gravy because they’ve got his replacement in house," says Curran. "You can tell his time is up in New England.

"If the Patriots move Ryan Mallett, expect it to be to the Texans."
