The Browns lost a key component of their defensive line Wednesday when defensive end Desmond Bryant was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list because of an irregular heartbeat.

That puts Bryant out for the rest of the season and means the Browns will be down a man when they face the Patriots on Sunday.

The 6-foot-6, 310 pound Bryant signed a five-year, $34 million deal with the Browns in the offseason. Bryant played at Harvard and was signed as an undrafted free agent with the Raiders in 2010.
