PHILADELPHIA – Tom Brady played two series for the Patriots before calling it a night in their preseason opener against Philly.
Brady led a pair of touchdown drives against the rebuilding Eagles.
The first was solely on the ground as Stevan Ridley opened the preseason with a 62-yard burst (beautiful block by Nate Solder) to move the Patriots to the Eagles 18.
After that, LeGarrette Blount ran it three times (picking up a third-and-1 off left tackle) and Ridley cleaned it up with a 5-yard burst and a 1-yard touchdown.
On the Patriots second drive, Brady came out firing going 7 for 8 for 65 yards. Four of his throws were completed to Kenbrell Thompkins who settled in as the outside receiver where Brandon Lloyd was operating last season.
Brady also drilled a 23-yard completion to rookie Aaron Dobson that was into Dobson’s body before he seemed to know it was coming.
Brady topped the drive with a 13-yard fade to Shane Vereen down the left sideline and into the end zone. Vereen, split out wide to the left, had linebacker Mychal Kendricks on him and applying good coverage but Brady’s throw was pinpoint to a diving Vereen.
Ryan Mallett came on after Brady.
