Brady not letting Super Bowl losses affect game prep

FOXBORO - You can't talk about a Patriots-Giants matchup without talking about . . . ya know.

Yes, the Giants beat the Patriots in not one but two Super Bowls, dating back to 2007.

They also ended the Patriots undefeated season in the first of those Super Bowls.

So yes, there's a bit of pain involved in seeing those white and blue jerseys on the other side of the ball. You might even say you're disgusted by the sight of them.

But is Tom Brady disgusted by the sight of them? He was asked on Wednesday.

"They're a good team. I mean, they've always played us pretty tough, so we're expecting their best," Brady said. "They've got some really good players. They're obviously really well-coached, so they're just a tough team. We've always played them, I mean, we've always had very, very close games against them even when we've won. We just haven't won as many of them as I would've liked to have won."

It was a typical answer from Brady, who rarely shows emotion one way or the other off the field.

Some players would use those Super Bowl losses as motivation to beat that the next time around. It's human nature. Brady - who may or may not be human - doesn't seem to feel that way, at least not publicly.

"I'd much rather have won them than lost them, but they won't have any bearing on this week or what the matchups are," Brady said. "It's a totally different team and game and situation and so forth, but they just have a great organization. They've had a great organization for a long time. They've got a great history with a lot of players, one of the oldest franchises in the NFL, so there's just a lot of history with the team."

And just as Brady doesn't think back on those games, Eli Manning doesn't see them meaning much this time around from an X's and O's standpoint.

"You know, I'm not sure. It just seems like even the game four years ago, a lot of new faces," Manning said. "On both sides. On our side, on their side. Some different schemes going on. So I think we just got to know in those games we have to play smart. Don't make it easy for their offense. They're good enough already. So hopefully our defense can play outstanding again and we can make enough plays to win the game."
