Brady named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

Another week, another honor for Tom Brady.

The Patriots quarterback has been named AFC Offensive Player of the Week by the NFL for his performance in the Patriots 35-21 victory over the San Diego Chargers.

Brady followed a 517-yard, four-touchdown game in Week 1 with a 423-yard effort with three touchdowns after completing 31-of-40 passes to help beat the Chargers.

Brady is one of just seven NFL players with consecutive 400 or more passing games. In addition, Brady became the first of the 11 500-yard passers to follow up his 500-yard performance by throwing for 400 or more yards. Before Bradys performance against San Diego, only Drew Brees (2006) had followed a 500-yard game with 300 or more passing yards.

Brady is now in second place with 19 Player of the Week honors. With his next honor, he will tie Peyton Manning (20) for the all-time lead.

Study ranks Patriots fan base as second-best in NFL

A scholarly blog from Emory ranks the Patriots as having the second-best fan base in the NFL.

Compiled by professor Mike Lewis and favoring in numerous statistical data, the list ranks the Patriots first in terms of “social equity,” third in “fan equity” and fifth in “road equity.” The Cowboys hold the top overall spot.

The following graphic is from Lewis' report.

Lewis allows for the possibility that many of New England’s fans may be bandwagon fans, but that the league’s Deflategate scandal boosted engagement from Patriots dans on social media.
