Bills seemed pretty psyched following Brady ruling

You can't blame the Bills. They've had a hard time beating the Patriots with Tom Brady behind center.

In fact, since Brady became the Patriots starter in 2000, the Bills have beaten him just three times. That's a record of 3-26 over Brady's 16-year career.

It comes as no surprise then that the team's quick reaction to the ruling made by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday -- which reinstated Brady's four-game suspension for Deflategate -- was teeming with schadenfreude.

Zero couth.

The Patriots, of course, will host the Bills in Week 4 of this year's regular-season, and as of right now Brady is not scheduled to be on the field. Instead it looks like it will be Jimmy Garoppolo versus Tyrod Taylor in the battle of division rivals at Gillette Stadium.

Brady will also miss games at Arizona and at home against Miami and Houston if his suspension stands. He is slated to return Week 5 against the Browns.

Though Garoppolo saw just 13 snaps in his second professional season, the Patriots are likely hoping that he has advanced in his development enough to give the Patriots a chance to win the four games he's expected to start, including two prime-time games and two division games.

According to Patriots coach Bill Belichick, Garoppolo's game has grown exponentially since he was drafted in the second round out of Eastern Illinois.

"I think Jimmy has made great strides for us this season," Belichick said back in January. "The reps that he’s gotten on the field in preseason games and in practice, I think he’s shown a lot of development -- better understanding, quicker recognition and reading of the defenses, more awareness of what’s happening on the defensive side of the ball, better communication, better understanding of the offense, better understanding of the defense. Really, everything.

"I think we see it on a daily basis from Jimmy. He’s a hard working kid who’s always prepared. It’s a tough position to be in when you don’t know if you’re going to play or not, but he prepares hard to play, we push him hard to be ready to play, and he’s made a lot of progress this year. As a football player I think everybody has a lot of confidence in him based on the opportunities that he’s had to show what he can do and how he’s working."

Some oddsmakers aren't as confident in the strides taken by Garoppolo. According to Bovada, the over/under for Patriots wins through the first four games of the season without Brady is 1.5.

The Bills, clearly, are excited for the possibility that they could help the Patriots hit the under.
