Bertrand: Patriots should sign Steven Jackson

The Patriot brought veteran running back Steven Jackson in for a workout, but no signing is imminent. Still, Marc Bertrand said on Early Edition that he’d “love it” if the Patriots ultimately decide to sign him.

“We’re talking about six games if you sign Steven Jackson, and that’s six games if you’re going all the way to the Super Bowl,” Bertrand said. “You can’t get six weeks out of this guy? He was serviceable last season.”

But Trenni Kusnierek played devil’s advocate, suggesting the Patriots “almost can do the same, or at least try to do the same, with James White.”

White is 23-years-old and has 56 career touches for 350 yards.

Jackson is 32-years-old, with 3,203 touches for 15,051 yards.

If Jackson has anything left in the tank, then he could absolutely be of value. But Kusnierek brings up a good point that the Patriots might be better served with the young, fresh legs of White, instead of an old, rusty running back in Jackson.
