The agent for second-year linebacker Cameron Gordon announced on Thursday that Gordon had parted ways with the Patriots.

"Just got word that the New England Patriots are releasing OLB Cameron Gordon," Brett Tessler tweeted. "Let's see if he passes through waivers."

Gordon was signed by the Patriots last season as an undrafted rookie out of Michigan. He spent the year on injured reserve and was released back in May. Re-signed earlier this month, Gordon had served as depth at outside linebacker as well as in the kicking game.

The Patriots now have 87 players on their 90-man roster as they travel to North Carolina to play the Panthers on Friday night. The team will be required to cut its roster down to 75 players before 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sep. 1.
