Larry Brooks from the New York Post absolves any fans that are pumped about the start of the NHL season. I wholeheartedly agree. Nobody should feel guilty about jumping back into the sport with both feet.

Steve Begin has hooked on with the Calgary Flames and qualified for their opening night roster. They also have Dennis Wideman. In other news the Flames arent going to be very good this year.

Ed Jovanovski has been named captain of the Florida Panthers for this season. A nice honor for Jovo-Cop after his career has come full circle in Florida.

P.K. Subban still doesnt have a signed contract for this season, so the Montreal Canadiens will have themselves a rare holdout. Wonder if this means P.K. goes on the trade market if this thing is prolonged?

The Dallas Stars are back and theyre hoping the fans will follow with new ownership acting as caring stewards. Turnout has been good for practices.

The price of Bruins tickets has jumped precipitously in the secondary ticket market as the lockout ends. Ive heard many complaints about this on twitter.

For something completely different: sad to hear about more violence in Belfast and Northern Ireland.

Patriots, Lions planning on joint walkthrough before preseason game

FOXBORO -- There seemed to be an announcement made at Bill Belichick's press conference Wednesday morning, his first meeting with reporters during training camp.

Belichick mentioned during his opening remarks that the team will be working with the Jaguars, Texans and Lions during camp. Joint practices with the Jags and Texans had already been announced. Joint work with the Lions seemed to be news.

Belichick was asked to clarify later that the team would be having three sets of joint practices, and said, "That's right."

The work the Patriots do with the Lions won't be exactly the same as what they do with the Jaguars and Texans, though. The Patriots clarified later that the plan as of now was for the team to have a joint walkthrough with the Lions in Detroit on the day before their Aug. 25 preseason game.

The Patriots and Jaguars will conduct joint practices at Gillette Stadium on Aug. 7 and 8 before their Aug. 10 game in Foxboro. The Patriots and Texans will practice with one another at the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia on Aug. 15 and 16 before their Aug. 19 game in Houston.
