Mayo: 'we needed to come out and play'

FOXBORO -- There won't be any audio of the Patriots' halftime pep talk at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, but linebacker Jerod Mayo gave the media an idea as to how it went, while trailing the Miami Dolphins 17-0 through two quarters.

"It's probably not even legal for me to say it right now, so I'll leave it alone," said Mayo with a smile, when asked what was said at the half. "Just know that we needed to come out and play better in the second half, and we did that."

The Patriots scored 27 points in the second half to pick up their 12th win of the season, and secure a first-round bye in the playoffs.

And Mayo said that second-half spark wasn't because of any schematic change. They simply just came out flat in the first half. So when asked again to give a censored version of what was said at halftime, Mayo responded, "I'm not going to censor it. Too many bleeps."
