Tyler Seguin called reports out of Switzerland that he trashed his apartment while playing for EHC Biel unprofessional, and said the story was largely a fabrication for a Swiss tabloid looking to make a splash.
According to a Deadspin piece put together from the Swiss report, Seguin left his team-paid apartment in squalor when he left and, among other things, that the bathroom was in a shambles and that it took a cleaning company a full day to return it to normalcy. The information was gleaned by one of the members of the cleaning service provided by the Biel team.
The Deadspin piece also incorrectly paints Seguin as living by himself for the first time over in Switzerland when he lived on his own during his rookie year in Boston as an 18-year-old.
The now 20-year-old Seguin said that the report was 100 percent untrue and wondered if the Swiss media came after him when they learned that a cleaning service was one of his contractually-agreed perksa rarity in the Swiss League.
Maybe they went after me because I was one of the only guys on the team that asked for a cleaning service? But thats something that Ive always had and I didnt think asking for it was a big deal, said Seguin. Apparently weve got Photoshop over here than over there in Switzerland, I guess. I was blown away with everything. I thought it was very unprofessional. I dont want to talk about it too much, but everything in the report was 100 percent untrue.
Seguin indicated that he took everything with him when he returned to Boston shortly after Jan. 1, and took issue with the details about his inability to use the washer and dryer. According to the Bs puck prodigy, he washed all of his clothes at NHL teammate Pat Kanes apartment downstairs. So there was no reason for him to use the washer or dryer at his temporary residence.
Between the bogus reports about hip issues and the tabloid piece on his Swiss living space, its a crying shame that those things are leaving Seguin with a bad taste in his move after he was truly embraced by the Biel fans in Switzerland. Incidents like that that also makes Seguin grateful to be back in North America ready to crank up NHL hockey in the next couple of weeks.
