Mark Recchi always said he hoped to eventually get a job in an NHL front office once hed settled into retirement, and it appears the former Boston Bruins alternate captain has done just that.
According to a Dallas Morning News report, Recchi has signed on for a position with the Dallas Stars that will be officially announced on Thursday, and will make him a special advisor to Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk. The 44-year-old Recchi retired after winning the Stanley Cup with the Boston Bruins during the 2010-11 season, and spent the better part of the last two seasons spending more time with his family and staying involved with the Kamloops Blazers junior hockey team he co-owns with a number of NHL greats.
Recchi had always indicated over the last few years that coaching pro hockey didnt really interest him, but that building a team was the kind of challenge he wanted to take on.
There was always the hope Recchi would come back to Boston as part of the management team with Cam Neely and Peter Chiarelli, but the future Hall of Famer has close ties to new Dallas Stars owner, and Vancouver native, Tom Gagliardi. Recchi will join Dallas Stars legend Mike Modano (executive advisor and alternate Board of Governor) and former StarsBruins goaltender Marty Turco (analyst on the Stars broadcast team) as new hires within the Dallas organization.
Modano was the Stars No. 1 overall pick in the 1988 NHL Draft, when they were still called the Minnesota North Stars, and spent all but one year of his career with the organization. Modano registered 561 goals and 813 assists for a total of 1,374 points over the course of 1,499 regular season games.
Turco was selected by the organization with the No. 124 overall pick in the 1994 NHL Draft and went to have a solid goaltending career with the Stars and Chicago Blackhawks before retiring after playing a handful of games for the Bruins last season.
