Report: Kelly headed to play in Switzerland

Chris Kelly has become the 10th Bruins player to agree to play overseas during the NHL lockout and will play for HC Red Ice of the First Amateur League of Switzerland, according to Finnish hockey reporter Matias Strozyk.

There has been no announcement made on the Red Ice website about the Kelly signing.

The Bs third line center had been skating with a small group of NHL players in Ontario waiting things out over the last few months. Kelly joined his Bruins teammates for the large NHLPA gathering in New York City during the month of September when the entire Bs club showed up to the proceedings, but he hasnt been in Boston during the 46-day NHL lockout.

Kelly was set to begin a four-year, 12 million contract this season after signing an extension in July and is coming off a career year where he hit the 20 goals scored mark for the first time in his career. According to the report, Kelly has a contract that can be renewed at the end of every month and the center will have an out clause in the deal that will allow him to leave Switzerland once the NHL begins their regular season.

The 10 Bruins players now in Europe are the largest contingent of NHL locked out players overseas, and there could be more Bs headed abroad in coming days if the Winter Classic is cancelled.
