Paille, Thornton will not make trip to Montreal

A pair of fourth line regulars, Daniel Paille (eyeface injury resulting from a high stick) and Shawn Thornton (concussion), are officially out for the Boston Bruins for Wednesday nights rivalry game against the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre.

Brad Marchand (upper body) will travel with the team to Montreal this morning and practice with his teammates this afternoon at the Bell Centre.

The Bs agitator is expected to be a game-time decision for Boston, but there was no shot either Paille or Thornton would be ready in time for a showdown with a red-hot Habs team.

Thornton has been symptom-free for days and began skating on his own on Monday prior to team practice at Ristuccia Arena. Paille hadnt yet been medically cleared by doctors to jump into game action, and was just getting back into the flow after a close call when a stick blade got caught under his visor against Buffalo.

Paille took himself out of three-on-three contact drills on Monday to avoid any incidental contact with his eye while taking part in other portions of practice.

Two guys arent going to make the road trip: Dan Paille and Shawn Thornton, said Claude Julien. In that situation its because they cant play tomorrow, but were very optimistic that theyll be okay moving forward.

With both Paille and Thornton out that means that both Jamie Tardif and Lane MacDermid should be in the Boston line, and Ryan Spooner is expected to get the call if Marchand cant make a go of it on Wednesday night. Marchand suffered an upper body injury when he tumbled awkwardly into the boards after tripping over James Reimers equipment on a rush to the net in last weekends win over the Maple Leafs. Marchand suffered the injury in the second period and never came out of the Bs dressing room for the third period.
