McQuaid to miss Carolina game for ‘personal reasons'

WILMINGTON, Mass. The Bruins went back to work at Ristuccia Arena on Sunday morning after getting a rare Saturday off, but the players werent all accounted for on the ice.

Rugged 6-foot-5 defenseman Adam McQuaid was missing from the defensemen corps after playing 13:38 of ice time against the New York Islanders in Friday nights win and averaging 14:31 over the first four games of the season. McQuaid also dropped the gloves with Brian Boyle last week after the Rangers center fired a puck off his left leg after a whistle had blown the play dead on an off-sides call.

Claude Julien indicated at the start of the season that there would be many more maintenance days for his players in a shortened 48-game season. But the coach indicated that McQuaid was missing from practice -- and would be out for Monday night's game in Carolina -- due to "personal reasons." So extra defenseman Aaron Johnson will be in the lineup Monday night against the Hurricanes.

"He'll be back on Monday night," said Claude Julien, with the clear indication that he'll be available Tuesday night at home against the New Jersey Devils. "There are no injury issues. He won't meet us in Carolina."

Lane MacDermid and Jay Pandolfo suited up in the green practice jerseys and skates as extras, but the rest of the lines and pairings will stay intact:
