On paper, 40-year-old Jaromir Jagr made some sense as a member of the Bruins in a third-line role to give them a Recchi type veteran forward with high capabilities for leadership, offense and power-play production.
The potential teaming of Czech products Jagr and David Krejci in Boston next season was particularly tantalizing.
But according to a source with knowledge of the proceedings, Jagr isnt interested in playing for the Bruins or Montreal Canadiens as he seeks a new home among the 21 suitors his agent claims have reached out for theCzech legends services.
Jagr is apparently adamant that he wants to play in a top-six forward role with his new team. That would be an obvious issue with a Bruins team that appears stacked among their top two lines provided Nathan Horton is 100 percent healthy.
Jagr also is said to have a 4 million asking price that was an issue with the Canadiens. Still, the future Hall of Famer also appears to be wary of the kind of intense media attention he would command in a hockey hotbed like Montreal.
According to that same source, Jagr is talking to the Dallas Stars about a potential spot with them after they signed fellow 40-year-old Ray Whitney to a two-year, 9 million contract two days ago at the start of NHL free agency. Dallas has the cap space and could potentially guarantee him the top-six forward spot that he's searching for in his new NHL landing spot.
Jagr had 19 goals, 54 points and 20 power play points in 73 games for the Flyers last season, and could still be a very useful offensive piece for an NHL team already boasting a playoff-worthy roster.
