Bruins hold lockout practice at Harvard

CAMBRIDGEThe Boston Bruins got together with a number of their NHL brethren at Harvards Bright Arena on Monday for their first official practice following the lockout. Milan Lucic, Gregory Campbell, Zdeno Chara, Andrew Ference, Tuukka Rask, Shawn Thornton, David Krejci, Daniel Paille, Tyler Seguin and Johnny Boychuk were among the Bs players in attendance along with local skaters Matt Gilroy, Ryan Whitney, Keith Yandle, Jay Pandolfo and retired NHL forward Mike Grier.

Patrice Bergeron was not among the skaters after being a regular attendee last week in Wilmington, and Nathan Horton, Chris Kelly and Brad Marchand continued to be missing from the regular group of Bs skaters.

There was a much higher number of players at Harvard than at the previous captains practices at Ristuccia Arena, so its likely another group of AHL, NHL or college players were also skating with the Bruins.

The 90-minute practice broke into a scrimmage about half-way through the action, but CSNNE.com wasnt able to get the players' thoughts on practice or the lockout after the local media (the Boston Heralds Steve Conroy and this humble hockey writer) was asked to leave Harvards hockey arena. According to Harvard PR flack Brett Moore, the lockout practice sessions are closed to the media per policy of the college. Moore then walked the hockey reporters off the campus grounds to the sidewalk outside the facility.

It was the kind of act to suppress information that probably would have made Harvard alum Mark Zuckerberg nod his head in approval.

Those hoping to get the thoughts of the Bruins players now that theyve been locked out by the NHL are now victims to Harvards strict no media policy just like everybody else. Hopefully the university will re-think their position provided the players are okay with a reasonable amount of media coverage for these lockout practices. After all, fans are hungry for whatever information scraps are available while the NHL regular season is temporarily on ice.
