Ricky Davis comeback to the NBA with the Maine Red Claws of the NBA Development League has ended after 11 games.
The team announced on Saturday the 32-year-old guard has been waived.
Davis averaged 8.5 points and 3.3 rebounds during his time with the Red Claws (the Boston Celtics, Charlotte Bobcats, and Philadelphia 76ers D-League affiliate).
Shortly after joining the Red Claws, Davis told CSNNE.com he had contemplated retirement after a patella tear but was ready to make another run at the NBA after successfully rehabbing the injury.
He hoped part of that road would include a return to his former team, the Boston Celtics.
Oh yeah definitely. No hesitation at all, he said. Those guys over there, theyre class acts. Doc Rivers is easily probably one of the best coaches Ive ever played for. Hes the one that kind of started the team thing with me, bringing me off the bench and teaching me different kinds of things in the game. That would be a great blessing for me to go back to Boston and get my Bucket Brigade going again (laughs).
Davis averaged 13.5 points, 3.3 assists, and 3.5 rebounds in 736 NBA games as a member of the Celtics, Charlotte Hornets, Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Los Angeles Clippers.
When asked if he had something left to prove in the NBA, Davis answered without hesitation.
Oh yeah, Ive got a lot to show, Davis said. I was holding back and Im ready. Im ready.
