Mike Giardi and CSNNE Patriots insider Tom E. Curran analyze the receiving corps so far in training camp and how they will react to the first preseason game Friday night against the Eagles in Philadelphia.

The rookie receivers have gotten a lot of attention, particularly Aaron Dobson, the second-round pick from Marshall.

"Dobson is one of those guys physically [6-3, 205 pounds] unlike any receiver the Pats have had in recent history," Girardi said. "[He's] a guy with the ability to go up and get the ball."

After three days of joint practices with the Eagles, Dobson said he's ready for his pro debut.

"Definitely jitters," he said. "A little bit because it's something new, but I'm definitely ready for it."

The peformance of rookie receivers Dobson, Josh Boyce and Kenbrell Thompkins, among others, Curran said, is "the question that needs to be answered after three days of practices with the Eagles."

Curran himself asked, "Can they be as confident, can they be as savvy, can they be as intuitive as they seemed to be during the week when the lights come up, where things are unscripted and you're going against full defenses and not just 7-on-7s?"

Which leads to another question, how does coach Bill Belichick treat them? Like rookies or like veterans who need to have their reps managed?

We'll start to find out Friday night.
