Mike Vrabel played two seasons with Junior Seau.

When I spoke to Vrabel Wednesday afternoon soon about his former teammate's suicide, Vrabel was understandably rattled.

How? Why? Concern for Seau's family and children all spilled from Vrabel in a rush. Vrabel, an Ohio State assistant, was on the recruiting trail in Indianapolis.

He hadn't heard about Seau's death until I reached out to him.

Asking for a perspective on Seau, Vrabel offered, "My only regret is that I didnt get to playmore years with him. He was in it for the team and he was never afraid to helpmentor younger players.Vrabel mentioned that he remembered watching former Bears safety Dave Duerson when Vrabel was young and being affected by Duerson's death by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
But Seau? Someone so close?"This is hard to comprehend," said Vrabel. "I wish we could figureout why and help these guys who have a hard time after football."
