Vereen returns to practice Wednesday; Connolly absent

FOXBORO -- Shane Vereen has finally made it back.

The running back suffered a foot injury in New England's third preseason game and has missed every practice. He was inactive in last Sunday's season opener in Tennessee.

Wednesday, he was out on the practice field for the Patriots shorts-and-shells session.

Dan Connolly was the only player absent.

Connolly left New England's Week 1 game with a head injury. The center has a history of concussions, so Wednesday's missed practice wasn't a shock.

Four players -- WR Julian Edelman, LB Jeff Tarpinian, OL Marcus Cannon, and DE Justin Francis -- wore the black jerseys awarded to players who did the best job on scout team in the previous week.
