Spikes expects punishment for hit on Fitzpatrick

FOXBORO -- As of Thursday afternoon, Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes had yet to hear from the NFL about his hard hit on Buffalo Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick in Sunday's game at Gillette Stadium.

But Spikes expects to be getting a call.

"Not yet, but I'm pretty sure I'll get something here in a couple days," said Spikes after Thursday's practice.

Some comments from Bills players were directed at Spikes following the game, calling him a "punk" and a "headhunter" -- not just for his hit on Fitzpatrick but also for his celebration after running back Fred Jackson was injured with what was later diagnosed as a concussion -- which of course, the Patriots' hard-hitting linebacker disagrees with.

"I love what I do," said Spikes on Thursday. "I get a kick out of it. I go to bed thinking about ball. I wake up thinking about ball. So you can see it when I'm playing. My teammates love it, and I go out and play for them every snap.

"Everybody has their opinion, and they can think what they want. But I'm just doing my job.

"It kind of takes a little bit of my aggression away, but hey, I've got to do business and business has been done," added Spikes. "So, it is what it is. It's definitely discouraging. That's how I play. I'm physical."
