Report: Patriots make financial commitment to Demps

Jeff Demps isn't your average undrafted free agent. The financial commitment the Patriots made to the speedster from Florida tells the story.
While most undrafted players do not receive a signing bonus, Demps got 11,000 for signing with New England, according to NFL.com. Demps will also receive 200,000 guaranteed of the 390,000 base salary agreed upon if he makes the 53-man roster.
If Demps does make the team, the 211,000 he would get is the second-largest amount given to a 2012 undrafted free agent. Only Cowboys offensive lineman Ronald Leary has been guaranteed more (214,000).
Demps hasn't yet practiced with the Patriots, and he isn't a lock to make the roster. But he does have world-class speed -- as he showed when he won a silver medal in London as a member of the U.S. 4 x 100 meter relay team -- and could prove himself worthy of a spot in the team's two remaining preseason games.
