Report: Markell Carter released by Patriots

Patriots DEOLB Markell Carter has been informed of his release, according to multiple reports.
Carter was entering his second NFL season. Since limited to the practice squad his rookie year, the former sixth-round pick saw no game action for New England.
He Tweeted the following early Thursday morning: "It was too real Boston. I'll never forget those BostonLights. When God closes one door he opens a new one. STAYFOCUSED
Carter's salary was doubled in mid-December of 2011. At the time, he reportedly turned down a job on a 53-man roster elsewhere to stay and earn his keep with the Patriots. It was thought he might pick up some of the snaps played by the team's other Carter -- defensive end Andre -- once the veteran went down with a quad injury.
It didn't happen. Carter (Markell) will now hit the waiver wire.
